Geinwortelparadijs: Riddles from the mountains chapter 5: Waiting for Fhianna
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
As sudden as the outburst started with the 'NO' from Lepus and Vladimir’s crash, so does it also end.
Everybody stays quite a couple of moments and then takes Mysaryas again some herbs, and some water and creates little bit of an herbal mixture that looks almost like mud and he applies that to Vladimir’s head.
It feels cool and refreshing to Vladimir and after an hour or so he can move again.
When he looks up he finds Meladone sitting next to him looking over him.
Mysaryas' herbal mixture makes Vladimir feel a lot better and he spends the rest of the evening talking with Meladone about herbs and satyr-healing.
A few meters further Marsilion is sitting with Meinozsé, chatting a bit about architecture.
Mysaryas is close to Tyranael, who valiantly tries to dodge al suggestions from the satyr, like offers to go for a walk now they have to time, to offering to give her back a massage when she stretches it a moment and other little things, he doing his very best, and succeeding, to act as courteous as he can.
Lepus and Amayda are sitting also a bit apart and don't speak much, and if they do then mostly in whispers. Amayda's whispers regularly being followed by flushed and nervous looks from Lepus.
When it's time to sleep everybody goes look for his corner, the satyrs finding the most comfortable spots and being really willing to share them. So vanish Lepus after a bush at the edge following Amayda to go sleep half under it out of sight, leaving the bush move a bit. They can be heard whispering a bit now and then during the night.
Vladimir goes to sleep where Tyranael put him down when he was unconscious.
The satyrs help gather a breakfast and everybody eats leisurely, but Fhianna doesn't show up.
And even at everybody's easy pace of getting up and ready and waiting for an hour, there's still not a sign of Fhianna. Or Pylosmas
Lepus seems unusually cheerful the next morning, as if he had an good night's rest....or something like that. He takes his time getting ready but seems somewhat exasperated that Fhianna is making them wait. "They can't still be at it. Where is she?" he grumbles.
Tyranael is a lot less cheerful when she wakes up, likely before anyone else does, much like she was before the partying of the day before. With trained speed, she packs her bedroll and other stuff and gets ready to leave while she waits impatiently for the others to finish what they are doing. She merely shrugs when Lepus questions Fhianna's continued absence.
"Maybe she has run off with Pylasmos, as the other satyrs suggested. Would be something for her to do certainly. Fine, when we are done here we search around for her a bit in the piece of forest they ran off to, but if we can't find her within a candlemark we move on to Mimes without her. I was not sent out here to baby-sit irresponsible children."
Vladimir wakes up really refreshed and ready to continue the journey. When Tyranael finishes speaking he wonders
"What was Fhianna's function in the group again? It's still not clear to me. She did sign the contract didn't she? I wonder what the king will think of her wandering of!"
Lepus packs his stuff together and looks about desultorily. He doesn't seem overly keen on searching the woods for the vosje, seeing as she made indications of wanting to eat him.
"Well, she was... uhm..." Tyranael started answering Vladimir, until she came to the conclusion that she really had no answer to that question. She had scathingly made remarks to the effect that Fhianna had no real function, but she always figured there was something for which she came along. But now that she thought about it, nothing could really spring up in her mind.
"She did sign the king's contract anyway, so I don't think he'd like it very much if she were to disappear. But I think as long as we finish his mission everything will be fine with him. But we should still try looking for her for a bit at least, otherwise we can't tell the king we tried," she winked at that, making her intention more than clear to actually leave Fhianna behind.
When Meinozsé is finally also ready she stands with the othersv
"Shall we make our quick look around?"
She takes a look at the satyrs if they seem willing to lend a hand
v
Meanwhile Amayda gets close to Lepus again, scratches a bit behind his ear
"I hope this wasn't the last time the two of us where together, please come visit me sometime when you have more time"
And she gives him a kiss on the cheek
Meladone says her goodbye's to Vladimir
"Bye bye, was nice talking to you, come by another time if you want to talk herbs some more, I might know a couple with really interesting effects that we could experiment with"
Vladimir smiles at Meladone: "That sounds very interesting, maybe I'll visit you again on our way back! Thanks for teaching me"
Mysaryas answers Meinozsé's look, but maybe more directed at Tyranael
"Do you really have to go? You could stay with us. But if you really have to, you saw the direction they walked into, walking a circle isn't that hard that you need us"
"I'd say we'll manage to find our way," Tyranael replied to Mysaryas, ignoring his question entirely.
"Thank you for an excellent time and farewell."
Then she walks out of the satyr's clearing and into the forest where Fhianna disappeared into.
Vladimir follows her around while she looks for Fhianna, she seems to know where to look and she's the imposing Bladesinger... Besides, he doesn't really feel like finding Fhianna, no matter what leaving the group for so long without notice is not done before the assignment is finished.
After searching around and calling for a couple of minutes without any reply whatsoever, Tyranael starts looking for the road they had been walking on more than for Fhianna, who she considers lost around that moment. She is pleased that in another few minutes she sees the road in the distance. Turning to the others in her party, she looks inquiringly.
"The road to Mimes is over there. I think we should just leave this be and head on with our mission without Fhianna."
Vladimir nods approvingly: "I think you're right" he hesitates and says: "Do you think the king will let us split her fee if we tell him she left us to do the naughty with a semi-goat?"
Meinozsé looks a moment around the moment they are abandoning the search then saying a bit uncertain
"I think the king will probably prefer us to solve the mystery then to keep waiting for her."
Then looking at Vladimir
"He might let us share her share, but did we really make any agreements on what our share is? I don't think so, so he might just give us as much as he planned all along and say her share was distributed"
And she looks a bit sourly as she follows Tyranael back to the trail.
