7 Orders en Guilds

There are a number of orders, most of them are groups of knights, sorcerers, priests or thieves. Further there are of course the normal groups of manual labourers, but those won’t be mentioned here.
In most cases the groups specialize in such area’s that they don’t double cover certain area’s, but with the crisis as it now is they are slowly starting to cooperate more and more with each other.
The cooperation’s that will be mentioned and because of them the simple straightforward classification as given isn’t entirely correct. The expectation is that the cooperation’s will in the future lead to pacts or whole or partly fusions.
It is possible that the list of orders isn’t complete, this is because the ones mentioned here are those that are reasonable known and are certain to exist. Especially with the dwarfs it is very well possible that there are a couple missing. Unless of course the known knightly order isn’t a purely knightly order and already has gone though the expected change sooner then the organisations of the surface.

7.1 Knights

7.1.1 The Ralri: Tolvish order

This is the knightly order of the tolvs, this order has a very good workable code that is useable in every situation by its members. The members are well trained warriors in various area’s of expertise with a specialisation in one, so there are archers, blade singers, rangers, warriors, paladins etc.. The archer and warrior are the base skills and with that also less present in the upper parts of the hierarchy. This is because the more capable usually specialize in something else then one of the base skills. Specializing is also encouraged because it is considered better. They also cooperate with the elfish sorcerers and even have some people that are members of both groups because they have overlaying skills. This is possible because they goals and codes of both groups are very similar. Because of this cooperation there are rumours that these groups will merge to form a stronger more capable organisation.
Also in the temple complexes does the sign of this order show up regularly on people’s equipment. In areas with a lot of tolvs seem to be a lot of piece of equipment from this order in the hands of the thieves guild. When asked how that is possible you will be told that that is the result of a big robbery. All these stories mention an equipment depot being assaulted and cleaned out. From cautious guesses comes the conclusion that this depot has to have been gigantic.

7.1.2 The Korlé: cunicul order

This is the knightly order of the cuniculs, this is the newest order and isn’t very impressive. Especially because of their code, this isn’t really big and the pieces that are well made aren’t really strictly lived after. This is probably because of the newness of the order and the short life cycle of the cuniculs that makes it impossible to train them very long and good. Also the lack of a sense of honour in the cuniculs plays an important part.
Still is this order the biggest one there is, and fascinating to see that this order is absolutely not one big whole, every subgroup acts upon what the local ruler wants of them and because of this most battles between cunicul army’s have at least half of the people present of this order, killing each other.
The average time somebody stays in this order as a member is 5 years, most of them have by then died in some battle.

7.1.3 The Dwerossons: dwarvish order

This is the knightly order of the dwarfs, there isn’t really much known about this order. Every now and then a dwarf is met above ground and those are then usually of this order. The reports of these individuals are that they behave very honourfull but that this sense of honour doesn’t lead to ridiculous actions. They are also all warriors to be reckoned with. Because of this it is also that as soon as a dwarf participates in a tourney the profits of gambling on his victory aren’t really great. This is in contrast to the habit that profits are usually based on the results of previous tournaments and that unknown competitors are mostly given a small chance.

7.2 Sorcerers

These orders are nowadays all having a very withdrawn existence because the cuniculs fear magic and because of that hunt sorcerers down. Most of these organisations weren’t already that open to the world to start with, their attention was more directed to generating and exchanging knowledge about the magic.
Of course is also the training in the art something they provide. Most starting sorcerers find their master because they know he lives in their neighbourhood and they go to him to start their training. If this isn’t working for some reason then they will be send to the organisations. In the past people could also find in the bigger cities subgroups of one of the orders were you could enlist.
Sorcerers also now and then ask people they sense have a great potential if they are familiar with their talents and if they want to get training in it. With the aggressive cunicul attitude and the hidden guilds this is now the most common way for new students to start their training in a guild. Because this is the only way there is a big urge to all sorcerers on the road to keep their senses open for talented new members to keep their numbers on level.
The training is to learn in what to do to get the desired effect from the magic. The biggest difference between the orders is probably that every order has it's own way of guiding the magic to the desired effect. One of those differences is that the orders that come from a race use the original language of this race, and as you have seen in chapter 5 do they differ a lot.
The structure of the power in the guilds is again pyramid shaped. The most important persons usually are usually also the heads of the biggest complexes of the order. The 2nd line of importance is then the people in the councils of these complexes and the heads of smaller once, and so on and on.

7.2.1 The Lizeltof: tolvish order

This order still has a number of complexes standing remaining in the forests. Most of them are somewhere in a mydum and therefore protected by the fey. In these complexes is a treasure on documentation of the magic and magic items stored for study and safe keeping till days they are needed.
But still there are also locations in the woods still in use. Not so long ago has a cunicul army got almost completely lost in the forest while it was on it’s way to go destroy a complex. The few survivors spoke about the forest coming to live and tearing them into pieces, mixed with sudden huge water waves and their leaders struck down by lightning. And in the middle of this chaos they say a group tolvs from the knightly order cut it’s way through to make the butchering complete. This group was supposed to be unaffected by any of the magical effects.
One of the survivors had come in with it’s back completely burned, he had gotten out of range of a homing fireball just at the last minute. It seems like these things were send after the last survivors to try to leave non alive to tell the tale. They almost succeeded.

7.2.2 The Lartos: fey order

Here people are very sure there has to be some sort of organisation because all the court magicians seem to work with the same principals, as if they follow a code and therefore refuse to attack each other on battlefields, the normal opposing troops of the enemy of course can be hit. It are usual power contests to see who is the strongest and now and then it seems on the battlefields that they are the once controlling everything and not the cunicul commanders. This is something that will of course be denied but it is suspected that they just see it as an amusing little game.
About the structure of this organisation is nothing known. It is suspected that they have quite some cooperation’s with the tolvs to aid each other in protecting each others complexes.

7.2.3 The Ditovus: the open order

This order has been created by people leaving the other orders, this because they had the feeling those orders went to stubbornly one direction with their teachings and experiments. Because the knowledge comes from former members of the other orders is also their way of practicing magic a bit of a mixture from that and their own experiments.
The structure of this organisation is different from that of the others, it is more democratic. The head of every meeting and of the total organisation is the head of a chosen committee that is in command. This committee is expected to keep into constant contact with each other and the people the represent. This the main difference, because also here are the people voted in the highest committee the once leading the highest complexes, with also there chosen people in the committee leading that complex. These committee members stay very much into contact with each other by magical means.
This order has it’s buildings spread evenly while the other orders have often their locations concentrated in certain types of area’s and the original continents of the races they originate from.

7.3 Alchemists

Alchemist have orders just like other specialisations, but they are of a more lose structure. This is mostly due to the personality of alchemists. The power and risks that come with mastery of the art can easily tempt one to feel superior. They rarely tolerate others close to the, but their typical headstrong and individualist behaviour make sure they don’t have much trouble to be left alone. They do sometimes regret this, there are hardly better ways to feed your feeling of superiority then being worshiped by the plebs.
The biggest competition for alchemist are the sorcerers, this because they share a lot of cases where their skills are applicable. A lot of problems can be tackled from both directions without one having much of an advantage over the other. The risks and cost of alchemy and its components counterbalance the risks of divine attention can constitute to. And on top of that both specialisations take quite some work to master. The recent developments with the cuniculs please the alchemists tremendously, their competition gets taken out for free, and the cuniculs even make good customers.
But because every alchemist could also know the more questionable recipes, that for some strange reason sell very well to politicians, do they also get a lot of mistrust. After all, poison brewers are just scary. Sorcerers are a lot less scary as most don’t worship a god that grants the more sneaky branches of magic. Especially Tsami disapprove this firmly and are very suspicious of alchemists because in their views an alchemist can’t have any honour. Still there are Tsami among the alchemists. Some of them are exiles while others just dabble secretly a bit with the art, but an alchemist order doesn’t exist among them.

7.4 Priests

The priests are divided in orders that have each their own main temple site to worship the gods. Because every race has different preferences for which god they like you will see that every race goes more to some complexes then the others. The complexes they build are made like they think the realm of the gods looks like. The different temples are in different layers around a central court, the most important temples in the centre and building outwards like that. Because every race has different preferences about certain gods are all complexes a bit different so that the most beloved once of the race that build it are more to the centre and so more important. The most people worship multiple gods and for who has the capacity this gives them access to a number of different mystical area’s.
On every continent is a priestly order. Every kingdom has in principle one important temple complex but because of the structure of the orders one is a bit bigger then the others. Because it is an honour to have an important temple complex on your lands, particularly the main complex of an order, is there very often battle around these sites in which regularly die family lines out. The presence of these sites also makes children from these area’s more worth to marry to for a chance to get a piece of land there.
Because every continent has a race that has been created there before the others is also the language that is used in the rituals just like the other magic the language of the 1st race. This is because they believe that the old languages are more pure and therefore give a better result when you have performed a ceremony.

7.5 Thieves

With the thieves is it a bit differently, every city has in principle a thieves guild that operates in that city and it’s surroundings and makes sure they keep it their privilege to work there. In very big city’s are now and then more guilds, but that is very rare.
These city guilds often have agreements among them to cooperate or so in case that is necessary as for example in cases that they suddenly have to leave town. This can happen when it becomes them a bit to dangerous to stay in town or when a mission takes them somewhere else then the usual territory. Who cooperates with whom is mostly about the same as how the borders of the kingdoms are, although they don’t follow it so fast as the cuniculs now and then change them.
The most members of the guilds are thieve or rogue by training, but there are also other people, especially those interested in magic that are part of the guilds and not thieve or rogue. In this case they are probably also member of the local human sorcery order or the open sorcery order. Priests are also among them.
